The Member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Ogah, has expressed support for the Ebonyi State Government’s proposed cement factory at Nkalagu, Ishielu Local Government Area, describing the project as an opportunity to promote industrial growth, create jobs and strengthen the state’s economy.

Ogah, who also serves as the Ebonyi State Coordinator of the Tinubu Support Group, made his position known in a statement made available to journalists in Abakaliki, according to a report by Cable.ng.

He said the proposed cement factory, upon completion, would provide employment opportunities for young people, attract investors and entrepreneurs, stimulate economic activities and potentially reduce the cost of building materials.

The federal lawmaker maintained that Ebonyi State possesses the raw materials and enabling environment required to support a viable cement industry. He described the initiative as an opportunity to expand the state’s industrial base and create sustainable economic opportunities for its people.

Ogah urged residents, community leaders and other stakeholders to support Governor Francis Nwifuru’s efforts to establish the factory, arguing that the project should be viewed as a state development initiative rather than a personal undertaking.

He assured the governor of the support of Ebonyi’s National Assembly members towards the successful actualisation of the project and appealed to President Bola Tinubu to provide substantial federal assistance to facilitate its completion.

The lawmaker also cautioned against the spread of misinformation and actions that could undermine the initiative, noting that a state-owned cement factory could contribute to Ebonyi’s emergence as an industrial and economic centre.

“Any Ebonyi person trying to sabotage the dream of the state owning its cement factory and having our youths gainfully employed must be seen as an enemy of the state,” Ogah said.

He added that the state had long sought opportunities to expand its industrial capacity and urged residents to support efforts to ensure the successful completion of the project.

Ogah Commends Appointments, Peace Initiatives

The lawmaker also commended Governor Nwifuru for appointing 1,720 persons as special advisers and executive assistants, describing the appointments as part of efforts to strengthen governance and administration.

He further praised the governor’s intervention in communal conflicts that had resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property in some communities across the state.

According to Ogah, the interventions had helped restore peace and normalcy in affected areas, while displaced residents had been resettled to enable them to resume their social and economic activities.

He emphasised that sustained peace and security remained essential to the development of Ebonyi State and called on residents to support initiatives aimed at maintaining stability across communities.

Calls for NEMA Intervention in Flood-Affected Communities

In a related development, Ogah appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently intervene in the flooding affecting several communities in Ebonyi State, particularly in Ikwo Local Government Area.

He expressed concern over the destruction caused by the disaster, which he said had affected farmlands, residential buildings, household property and other valuables.

The federal lawmaker urged NEMA to assess the affected communities and provide relief materials and other necessary assistance to victims.

He stressed that urgent intervention was required to alleviate the hardship faced by affected residents and support their recovery from the losses caused by the flooding.

Reaffirms Support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

Ogah also commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as ongoing transformation across the country and praised supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their commitment to the party.

He maintained that the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda continued to inspire development aspirations and expressed confidence in the administrations of President Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru.

The lawmaker urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and support policies and programmes aimed at creating employment, strengthening the economy, improving security and delivering sustainable development.

He reiterated that collective support for development initiatives remained important to improving the welfare of residents and advancing the economic prospects of Ebonyi State and Nigeria as a whole.
